There is only one poisonous snake in the UK, the adder (Vipera Berus). Adders usually move away in hot weather, but in the cooler evening time, they can be more of a problem. Later in the year can be the worst time, so you need to be more aware of the problem. Adders can kill, so if your pet is bitten, go to the vet for anti-venom. Snakes are not aggressive and will usually disappear, but if threatened by an excited dog, they may bite to protect themselves.

Dogs are often bitten on their face and limbs, but they can be bitten on any part of the body. Getting your dog to the vet is the only first aid measure.  Do not attempt to suck out the venom; just get help as soon as you can. The vet will be able to give the anti-venom, drips, and other treatments.

You dog will be very distressed, and it may be aggressive due to being scared and in pain.
